How to Choose the Right Polymer80 Slide

Choosing the correct slide is the most critical decision in your P80 build, directly impacting reliability, accuracy, and aesthetics. With over 500 builds completed in our Mesa shop, we see common pitfalls. First, understand your frame. A Polymer80 PF940v2 (Full-size G17) requires a Gen 3 Glock 17 slide, while a PF940SC (Subcompact G26) needs a Gen 3 Glock 26 slide. Mismatching here is the number one builder error. Next, consider slide material. 416R Stainless Steel is the industry standard for durability and machining precision. We exclusively use 416R for our in-house milled slides. Avoid “stainless” blends that are overly soft. Slide finish is not just cosmetic. A quality Nitride or PVD coating provides superior corrosion resistance and lubricity over basic Cerakote on bare metal. Our slides feature a deep, hard Nitride finish that withstands holster wear and Arizona’s harsh climate.

Optic readiness is now essential. An RMR-cut slide (for Trijicon RMR/SRO, Holosun 407C/507C/508T) is our most popular. Ensure the cut includes proper sealing plate channels and threaded holes. For a cleaner look, consider a slide with an optics cover plate. Iron sight configuration is equally important. Slides come with front and/or rear sight dovetails cut. A Novak-style rear dovetail is common. If you’re installing suppressor-height sights for co-witnessing, verify the dovetail cut is compatible. We recommend installing sights with a proper sight pusher—never a hammer and punch, as you can crack your polymer frame.

Slide serrations are for manipulation, not just style. Aggressive front and rear serrations provide positive grip during chamber checks or press checks. Look for angled or angled-hybrid patterns that channel your force effectively. Window cuts and top porting are primarily for weight reduction and style. While they look great, understand that excessive lightening can affect slide mass and potentially cycling with lighter recoil springs. Our ported designs are CNC-calculated to maintain reliable function with 115gr and 124gr ammunition. Finally, barrel compatibility. Your slide must match your barrel’s locking system and hood dimensions. A “Glock-style” barrel is not specific enough. For a Gen 3 G19 slide, you need a Gen 3 G19 barrel. We test-fit all our slide and barrel combinations before shipping to guarantee lockup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a stripped slide and a complete slide?

A stripped slide is the bare metal housing without internal parts (firing pin, extractor, etc.). A complete slide includes all internal components installed and is ready to drop onto your frame.

Will this slide fit my Polymer80 PF940C frame?

The PF940C is designed for a Gen 3 Glock 19 slide. Any slide listed as “G19 Gen 3” will fit. We clearly label all products with compatible frames.

Do you offer slides with an optics cut?

Yes. Over 70% of our slides include an RMR/Holosun K-cut. We also offer specific cuts for the Holosun EPS footprint and direct millings for popular micro red dots.

What finish is most durable on a slide?

In our 15+ years of testing, Melonite (Nitride) QPQ finish provides the best combination of hardness, corrosion resistance, and lubricity, far outperforming painted coatings.

Are your slides compatible with OEM Glock parts?

Absolutely. All our slides are machined to Gen 3 Glock specifications. OEM and aftermarket Gen 3 internal parts kits will fit perfectly.

Do I need a special tool to install the slide parts?

We recommend a front sight tool, a punch set, and a nylon hammer. For rear sights, a sight pusher is essential to avoid damage. We offer tool rental for local customers.

Why is my new slide not cycling smoothly?

This is usually a break-in period or a recoil spring issue. A new slide and barrel can be tight. Ensure you’re using a Gen 3 RSA. It typically takes 100-200 rounds to smooth out. If issues persist, contact us.

Can I ship a slide to my door?

Yes. Slides, barrels, and all parts (except lower frames/receivers) can be shipped directly to you without an FFL, in compliance with federal law.

Built on Expertise: The Polymer80 Slide Difference

Your build deserves more than just parts from a warehouse. Travis Holt, founder and certified gunsmith, brings 15 years of professional firearms experience to every component we sell. Before launching Polymer80 Slide, Travis operated a full-service gunsmithing shop in Mesa, specializing in precision builds and reliability work for local law enforcement and competitive shooters. This hands-on experience with over 500 completed Polymer80 builds means we understand tolerances, wear patterns, and component interactions that catalog retailers don’t. We don’t just drop-ship. Every slide in our inventory is physically inspected, gauged, and often test-fitted in our shop. We identify and reject out-of-spec parts before they ever reach a customer. This expertise translates directly into our product selection, tutorials, and customer support. When you have a question about compatibility or function, you’re getting an answer backed by hundreds of real-world builds, not a script from a call center.

Legal & Compliance

Polymer80 Slide operates in full compliance with all Federal (ATF), State of Arizona, and local laws. It is the sole responsibility of the purchaser to understand and comply with all laws governing the purchase, assembly, and ownership of firearms and components in their jurisdiction. You must be 18 years of age to purchase parts (slides, barrels, etc.) and 21 to purchase frames, receivers, or complete firearms from an FFL. Building a firearm for personal use is legal under federal law, provided you are not a prohibited person. It is illegal to manufacture a firearm with the intent to sell or distribute. Assembled firearms are not required to have serial numbers under federal law for personal use, but some states differ. We do not sell completed firearms. We strongly recommend you familiarize yourself with ATF Publication 5300.4 and Arizona State Statutes Title 13, Chapter 31. When in doubt, consult a qualified attorney.
